Map overlays are a way to display additional information on the map.
To view them, select the filter button from any map view and choose which overlay you want to be activated.
Click the cross in the top right of the map filters pop-up window to return to the map. Filter options reset when you leave the map view and these do not affect your watch zone alerts.
There following overlays are currently available:
Fire Danger Ratings / Total Fire Bans:
Displays the Fire Danger Ratings (FDR) for the next four days and includes total fire bans (TFB) if applicable. The FDR tells you how dangerous a fire would be if one started and are forecast using Bureau of Meteorology data based on weather and other environmental conditions such as fuel load. Rain Radar:
Displays the location of rain using different colours to depict rainfall intensity. Click here for more info.
Wind Direction and Wind Speed:
Displays the wind direction with arrows and wind speed as coloured areas. Click here for more info.
Thunderstorm Tracker:
Displays the location of storm cells using different colours to depict rainfall intensity based on weather radar data. It identifies areas of potential thunderstorm activity and represents the area of activity as ovals. The arrows show the direction that the thunderstorms are heading and the three curves ahead of each oval show its expected position in 10, 20 and 30 minutes. Click here for more info.
Heat Health Alerts:
Displays the location of Heat Health Alerts for the next four days. Heat Health Alerts are issued by the Department of Health & Human Services when heatwave conditions that are likely to impact on human health are forecast. Click here for more info.
Thunderstorm Asthma Forecast:
Displays the Thunderstorm Asthma Forecast for the next three days. A rating of the likelihood of Thunderstorm Asthma will be displayed as Low, Medium or High. Click here for more info.
