Warnings will be issued when an emergency is likely to impact you.
They provide you with information about what is happening and our best advice on what action you should take.
Our aim is to provide you with as much information as we can - to help you to make good decisions to protect yourself and your family.
Visit our purpose-built website to get to know our warning signs.
There are three different levels of warning:
- Advice (Yellow): An incident has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes.
- Watch and Act (Orange): There is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action now to protect you and your family.
- Emergency Warning (Red): An Emergency Warning is the highest level of warning. You may be in danger and need to take action immediately. Any delay now puts your life at risk.
Warnings will be accompanied by an action statement, these give the community clearer advice about what to do.
The warning level is based on severity, conditions and the likelihood that the emergency will impact a community, so the first warning issued could be an Emergency Warning - the highest level.
Never rely on an official warning to leave. Emergencies can start quickly and threaten you and your home within minutes.
Additional messages that may be issued are:
-
Evacuate (Prepare to evacuate / Evacuate immediately)
An evacuation is recommended or procedures are in place to evacuate. Any evacuation orders are aligned within these 3 levels of warning as action statements - Prepare to Evacuate and Evacuate Immediately. -
